MLB announcer Michael Kay has fanned the rivalry between the Yankees and Mets during New York’s Subway Series.

The Yankees broadcaster declared his YES Network team is the “best booth in baseball.”

Kay took aim at SNY’s Mets booth after it ran a promo on his show on Monday night.

The Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees began earlier this week at Citi Field.

SNY ran an advertisement on ESPN New York radio during The Michael Kay Show hyping up their crew of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling.

“What I’m going to say right now might get me into some trouble,” Kay told his co-hosts Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg on Wednesday.

“The [SNY] ad, which ran during the last break, said ‘Enjoy the Subway Series with the best booth in baseball.’

“I mean, do you expect me to just take that lying down?

“I think our booth is the best booth in baseball.

“You know who the host of this show is. I’ll take O’Neill, Cone, and me over Gar, Ron, and Keith. I would.

“I mean, they’re great, but so is our booth. The way you want people to watch is to say, ‘Join the best booth in baseball?’

“I’m sorry, I think we’re the best booth in baseball.”

A recent poll by Awful Announcing saw the Mets broadcast crew ranked No. 2 among MLB fans for the 2023 season.

Kay and his YES Network crew were ranked back in 24th.

“The Mets booths on both the radio and TV side are MILES better than what the Yankees offer. And I’m a pinstripes fan,” said one fan on X.

“Sorry Michael. Saying what pitch just happened and sitting in silence for 20 seconds until the next pitch doesn’t make you the best in baseball,” argued another.

“I don’t even think Yankees fans will defend this lol,” added a third.

Five key MLB rule changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the innings timer will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15 like it did last year.

3. Teams will only be allowed four mound visits per game in 2024, down from five last season.

4. Fielders and defenders blocking bases will be called for obstruction.

5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.

On the field, it proved to be a mismatch as the red-hot Mets swept the Yankees in Queens.

Following a 9-7 win on Tuesday, the Mets slugged their way to a 12-2 victory in Game 2.

Across both games, the Orange and Blue smashed seven homers, 21 runs, and 24 hits.

The win propels the team to .500 at 38-38, a feat that just weeks ago seemed almost impossible.

The Mets have enjoyed a stunning June, in sharp contrast to the struggling Yankees.

Aaron Boone’s side has now lost four consecutive series and 8 of their last 10 games.

“You don’t like getting your teeth kicked in,” Boone said after Wednesday’s loss.

“It’s been a crappy two weeks for us. But it’s part of it. We know it’s coming.

“Adversity’s going to hit you. We got hit with a little bit right now.”
