THE New York Yankees have shifted their start time for Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins – and fans are outraged.
Originally the matchup was scheduled for a 2:05pm ET start, but the team announced first pitch will now commence in the evening.
Monday’s series opener against the Marlins in The Bronx is now set for 6:05pm ET.
Ultimately, the game was moved due to an anticipated solar eclipse.
The solar eclipse is expected to start in New York City around 2:10pm ET and last roughly two hours and 26 minutes before ending around 4:36pm ET, according to timeanddate.com.
On social media, fans fumed about the time change.
“Don’t they have lights at the ballpark?” one asked.
“Do I get a refund? I wanted to see the eclipse, not the Marlins,” a second said.
“Baseball is for sissies,” another added.
“They knew about the eclipse… Manfred put the kibosh on the start time,” a fourth noted.
The ideal viewing time for the eclipse is 3:15pm ET, per NASA.
It’s believed to be the last solar eclipse in the United States for the next two decades.
A solar eclipse is a celestial event in which the moon passes in front of the sun, casting a shadow over the earth below and rendering it dark as night for those in the direct path.
New York will not be in the direct path of the solar eclipse.
However, New Yorkers should still see about 90 percent of the sun blocked out by the moon during the event’s peak.
The Yankees planned a special giveaway for Monday’s game taking place during the event too.
The team intends to hand out commemorative Yankees Solar Eclipse Day T-shirts to the first 15,000 fans that arrive at Yankee Stadium.
New York has a three-game series scheduled with the Marlins.
After Miami, the Yankees will travel to Cleveland for a three-game series with the Guardians.
