Now it’s basketball that occupies much of his sporting attention.
Mussina has accepted the position of varsity boys basketball coach at Montoursville Area High School for a stipend of $4,170.
It’s not hard to put that into perspective. In Mussina’s final season, he made around $325,618 per game.
It seems that money is not the main motivating factor for Mussina now his professional sporting career is over.
The 56-year-old returned to life in Montoursville, Pennsylvania, after finishing in the MLB.
While there, he continues to indulge in a hobby that brings him great joy.
Mussina avidly collects John Deere tractors and classic cars.
He has appeared on the big screen at Yankees games, often with one of his beloved cars.
Mussina played with the Orioles from 1991 to 2000, before moving to the Yankees from 2001 to 2008.
He played in the World Series of 2001, when the Yankees lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Mussina made the All-Star game on five occasions – in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997 and 1999.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019, reflecting on his “almost” tag.
“This time I made it. Thank you baseball for an awesome ride,” Mussina said.
