He and teammate Trent Grisham were shipped to New York for right-handed pitchers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Randy Vasquez, Jhony Brito, and catcher Kyle Higashioka.
After the trade was announced and made official, social media exploded, with one fan creating a compilation video of every Soto home run in his career while the song “Welcome to New York” by Swift played in the background.
MLB fans were in awe of the video, with many proclaiming, “This is art.”
Another said: “It’s amazing, the combination is perfect!”
A third expressed: “This is gold. Welcome to New York, Soto!”
A fourth stated: “Wow, that’s soooo good. Welcome to NY indeed!”
And a fifth felt: “This is truly art, and I don’t even like the Yankees lol.”
The Yankees finished last season with an 82-80 record and missed the playoffs, and they hope the addition of Soto will bolster their lineup and offer more protection for Judge.
Soto has played six seasons in the MLB with the Washinton Nationals and the Padres.
In 779 regular season games, Soto has 160 home runs, 483 RBIs, and 768 hits with a career batting average of .284.
