NEW York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has just signed a two-year extension with the team.

The extension comes after Boone led the Yankees to the World Series in 2024.

The team announced the extension on Thursday, with more details about the contract to follow.

In his 2021 contract, Boone was reportedly giving a club option believed to be $3 million per year.

Boone, who has managed the Yankees since 2018, has led a successful career with the club in his seven seasons thus far.

As manager, Boone has amassed 603 wins and 429 losses for a .584 win-loss percentage.

Boone’s Yankees teams have qualified for the postseason every year during his tenure except for 2023.

The disappointing 82-80 season stirred up some drama around Boone’s managerial status, but that drama was quieted with the Yankees subsequently winning the AL East and the 2024 pennant.

Boone’s ties with the Yankees run deep, as he played a season for them in 2003 during his MLB career.

That year, Boone hit a legendary 11th-inning walk-off home run in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Yankees’ most hated rival, the Boston Red Sox, cementing his place in New York baseball lore.

After retiring from his playing career, Boone was an ESPN analyst on Sunday Night Baseball and Baseball tonight from 2010-2017.

He quickly saw success as the Yanks’ manager, garnering 100-win seasons in his first two years with the team.

Last season, Boone led the Yankees to the World Series for their first appearance since 2009.

The Yankees lost the 2024 World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

The team’s historic Game 5 collapse drew some criticism for Boone, who admitted that the team’s performance was not up to par.

Since their World Series defeat, the Yankees have lost star outfielder and offensive powerhouse Juan Soto to their crosstown rival, the Mets in a record-breaking contract signing.

The Yankees have also signed Max Fried and Cody Bellinger.

FAN REACTIONS

Some fans were not happy about the re-signing, and expressed their disappointment online.

“Through a lens this makes sense since he just took them to a WS,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

“But as Yankees fans we know better. This will lead to three good but not great seasons that end with losing in the ALDS or ALCS due to bone headed plays and decisions.”

“Boone headed decisions one could say,” another fan added.

“This organization just refuses to pivot from the status quo,” said another.
